Road surface cracks are one of the earliest indications of deteriorating pavement conditions. It is of paramount importance for transportation engineers to keep a strict eye on these cracks and to fix the damaged portions at their earliest convenience. Ignorance in this domain can cause damage to the vehicles commuting across the road networks.
Traditionally, these cracks are observed without the help of any image processing devices. The sketch of the crack is prepared manually and the conditions of irregularities are noted. Since the manual approach is completely dependent upon the specialist’s knowledge and experience, it lacks objectivity and lowers the overall reliability of the process. Moreover, the process is slow and consumes plenty of man-hours.
iENGINEERING has developed a Windows store application that can process automated pavement images and determine the pavement condition by automatically detecting cracks on the road. This application aims to improve the pavement monitoring process and facilitate the pavement engineers in managing the maintenance process with minimal time and manpower. The application is designed to intelligently identify cracks and other irregularities observed on the automated pavement images.
Following are the technology and application domain areas serviced by iENGINEERING for the Automatic Crack Detection project:
- Intelligent image processing
- Automated crack detection
- Windows Store App development
